Among the Healthiest Teas on Earth

Spring Dragon Longevity Tea is Dragon Herbs’ flagship tonic tea. It is available in tea bags for easy preparation and ready consumption. It is adaptogenic, immune regulating, tonifying to the Lungs, Heart, Pancreas, Liver, Brain and Kidney. It was Dragon Herbs first offering and remains our flagship product. It is consumed around the world by thousands of people every day for its wonderful flavor and health benefits.

Spring Dragon Longevity Tea is a very special tea, unlike any other tea on the market. It is actually a classical form of an elixir that in China was literally called a “longevity tea.” Spring Dragon Longevity Tea has one main “bulk” or “raw” herb, Gynostemma leaf, plus 5 tonic herb extracts. Gynostemma is a remarkable herb known in Asia as “magical grass.” It has been reported to have a wide range of health-promoting benefits.

In Asia, Gynostemma is considered to be:

  • Invigorating (does not cause hyperactivity – not a stimulant)
  • Calming (promotes a sense of peace – not a sedative)
  • Antioxidant
  • Immune-supporting in various ways – it may be consumed daily
  • A respiratory tonic
  • A digestive aid
  • Gynostemma supports normal healthy functioning of the liver and cardiovascular organs and tissues.
  • The ultimate greatness of Gynostemma lies in its broad spectrum ADAPTOGENIC (stress modulating) quality. Adaptogenic herbs help improve the efficiency of the metabolic, neurological, immunologic, respiratory and endocrine systems in normal healthy people. Prolonged consumption of Gynostemma supports the adaptive capacity of people at every level of their life.

Gynostemma has “double-direction” activity

  • Gynostemma supports physiological balance to the body under a wide range of stressful circumstances.
  • Gynostemma has a double-direction, regulating, adaptogenic influence on the central nervous system. It is calming when one is overexcited and invigorating when one is fatigued.
  • Gynostemma is widely known for its “spirit-lifting” effect on one’s mood.
  • Gynostemma may have a beneficial effect on the heart by supporting circulation.
  • Gynostemma helps balance the body’s metabolism.
  • Gynostemma has developed an enormous reputation in Asia as a major aid in weight management programs. Gynostemma has been shown to have a double-direction activity with regard to weight. Gynostemma can be useful in reducing excessive body fat, when combined with a reasonable exercise program and a healthy diet that modulates caloric intake. Gynostemma may also help athletes, body builders or slim people to gain weight.

The main active ingredients in Gynostemma are known as saponins

  • The saponins in Gynostemma are called gypenosides. There are over 140 gypenosides in Dragon Herbs’ Gynostemma.
  • These gypenosides are the constituents responsible for the adaptogenic qualities of this tonic herb.

Gynostemma – Ginseng at Tea Price

In 1972, a group of Japanese researchers reported that Gynostemma tea was being consumed as a daily “longevity tea” by large numbers of southern Chinese people. It was revered in the regions where it grows as “magical grass” because of its many reputed health benefits.

This led the Japanese researchers to study the constituents and pharmacology of Gynostemma. The researchers discovered that the chemical constituents responsible for the adaptogenic characteristics of Gynostemma are more than 180 different saponins called Gypenoside. Gypenosides are structurally and functionally very similar to ginsenosides, which are the active constituents of Ginseng root (Panax ginseng). In fact, many of them ARE ginsenosides, just in another plant than ginseng. This is the broadest known range of saponins in any one plant in nature. Ginseng, for example, has about 100 saponins (ginsenosides). The Gypenosides are so similar to the ginsenosides of Ginseng that in China, Gynostemma is called “Ginseng at tea price”.

  • Strong antifatigue effect
  • Energizing (not a stimulant)
  • Calming (promotes relaxation and a sense of peace – not a sedative)
  • Anti-aging (exhibits antioxidant activity)
  • Supportive of the body’s systemic double-direction immune response
  • A respiratory tonic (helps support a healthy respiratory system)
  • A digestive aid (Gynostemma is very soothing to the stomach by protecting the stomach lining)
  • Gynostemma has been shown in some studies to help to support normal healthy hepatic and cardiovascular function.
  • Gynostemma accelerates the body’s metabolism and helps maintain healthy blood sugar and blood fat levels already within a normal range. Maintaining healthy blood sugar and blood fat already within a normal range are critical steps in attaining healthy metabolic function, whether one wants to lose weight by reducing excessive body fat, gain weight by building lean muscle, or maintain healthy weight by helping regulate bodily functions.
Gynostemma may also help athletes, body builders or excessively slim people to gain weight.
  • Although Gynostemma is not a laxative, it may help maintain healthy bowel movements.

Super Infusion Process (SIP™) for Maximum Potency

Spring Dragon Longevity Tea is more than just a blend of 6 chopped herbs, it is a super-potent herbal formulation with potency on par with capsules and tinctures!

Traditionally, only botanicals that are suitable for steeping are delivered in a tea bag format. The steeping method limits typical tea bags’ ingredients to mostly leaves, flowers, and a few fruits, whose flavors and constituents can come out using steeping only. Therefore, many powerful botanicals that require decoction (extracting a substance by boiling) are excluded from using tea bags as a delivery system. For example, roots and mushrooms such as Reishi, Ginseng, Astragalus, and Eleuthero require a long cook time. Fruits such as Schizandra, Goji and Monk Fruit (Luo Han Guo) need shorter cooking than roots, but steeping alone will not produce their maximum potency and efficacy. As a result, these powerful botanicals are typically only available in capsules or tinctures.

Dragon Herbs has developed a special technology called Super Infusion Process (SIP™) that solves this age-old dilemma.

During the Super Infusion Process (SIP™), we optimally extract 5 premier tonic herbs (Schizandra, Goji, Astragalus, Eleuthero and Luo Han Guo) together, resulting in a thick, concentrated syrup. The syrup is then infused into premium grade Gynostemma leaves. The saturated leaves are carefully dried, locking in the superior range of phytonutrients from all the tonic herbs. The result is a super-potent herbal formulation. This proprietary process ensures that our Spring Dragon Longevity Tea (SDLT) is 5 to 10 times stronger than other herbal teas that are just blends of chopped herbs.

With six premier tonic herbs, this tea yields one of the most broad spectrum health promoting tonic brews in the world.*

SIP HerbsSchizandra Fruit – Called the “quintessence of Chinese herbs,” Schizandra is a delicious, exotic tonic fruit traditionally used to tonify all the systems of the body, nourish and moisturize the skin, and sharpen the mind.

Goji Berries – Known in Asia as a premier “longevity and anti-aging herb,” this delicious tonic fruit is a true superfood, exhibiting antioxidant activity. It is famous for enhancing strength, vision and beauty. Goji features immune system-supporting polysaccharides.

Astragalus Root – One of the most important herbs in all of herbalism, Astragalus is highly regarded for its effects in helping to support a healthy immune system. It is also a potent energy tonic and blood tonic.

Eleuthero Root – Also known as “Siberian Ginseng,” Eleuthero is famous for its ability to enhance physical and mental endurance, to help us handle stress more efficiently and as a gentle mood elevator. Eleuthero, like ginseng and Gynostemma, is rich in saponins. It is a superb adaptogenic herb.

Luo Han Guo Fruit – Also known as Monk Fruit. This delicious, exotic fruit has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese traditional to moisten the lungs and the skin, soothe the throat and generate fluids. It contains mogroside, a potent glucoside that helps to support a healthy immune system.

Double-Direction Regulating Adaptogens

Ultimate Greatness

The ultimate greatness of Spring Dragon Longevity Tea (SDLT) lies in its broad spectrum ADAPTOGENIC dual-directional regulating characteristic. Adaptogenic herbs help maintain the efficiency and accuracy of the adrenal, metabolic (pancreatic and cellular), neurological, immunologic, respiratory, and endocrine-hormonal systems.

Balance is life.

Asian health practice, at every level, is based on the Principle of Yin and Yang and its primary objective boils down to attaining and maintaining balance between Yin and Yang.

This principle asserts that everything and every function in the universe and in the human body (macrocosm) has duality (Yin and Yang), just as a coin has two sides, a full day has night and day, and a year has summer and winter. Yin and Yang are opposing forces within one integrated whole. Yin and Yang are interdependent. Yin and Yang oscillate. Progression of one force will take place as the other regresses. And then the phases reverse. This cyclic movement and change results in the maintenance of a harmonious, properly balanced healthy whole. It maintains balance (homeostasis) and order in any system, physical or living, or even psychological.

Life itself is entirely a matter of Yin and Yang forces working together, maintaining dynamic balance (scientists call it homeostasis) on the microscopic scale and on the macroscopic scale. We sleep at night (Yin) and we work/study/play during the day (Yang). Our hearts contract (Yin) and expand (Yang). Our blood pressure rises up (Yang) and down (Yin).

Balance is achieved through dual-direction regulation of Yin and Yang bodily functions.

It is impossible for a human, or any living being, to consciously regulate all the Yin and Yang functions of their body on a practical level. The body does that for us. Our bodies have evolved over millions of years and have attained the innate ability to maintain balances on macro- and microlevels. There are millions of Yin-Yang activities taking place on every moment, and these activities are all miraculously regulated by the body’s regulatory mechanisms. If a function is tending toward defficiency, the body stimulates it. If a function is excessive, the body constrains the excessive action. They function like the thermostat in a home that regulates our home temperature. When our home is too cold, the thermostat switches on the heating to warm up the house; when the home is too hot, It switches on the cooling. Once the temperature reaches the set desired level, the thermostat switches to maintenance mode.

Balance Yin and Yang

It is because of these mechanisms that our body temperature stays stable, that our heart rate is steady except when stressed (and even then, within limits), that we wake and sleep in a daily rhythm. External climatic and environmental factors such as windy, dry, wet, hot or cold conditions can challenge our internal homeostasis. Our body has ways to adapt (adjust), but only within limits. If we have enhanced adaptability, we will do much better. This is true in all aspects of our lives. If these innate regulatory mechanisms become inaccurate or fail due to wear-and-tear, toxins, poor nutrition, some functions will become excessive and others de  cient. Then our bodily functions lose balance and a cascade of problems arise.

SDLTDon’t fix the temperature, tune the thermostat.

The purpose of taking tonic herbs is primarily to feed our body’s innate regulatory system. Adaptogenic tonic herbs have complex chemistry compounds, and often pairs of compounds, that support the opposing functions: some are stimulating, some are constraining. They tune the body’s regulatory system so it is optimized and can do a stellar job with its balancing act.

Spring Dragon Longevity Tea incorporates some of the most famous adaptogens: Gynostemma, Astragalus, Goji, Schizandra, and Eleuthero “Siberian Ginseng”. Continued consumption of this delicious herbal tea can strengthen the adaptive capacity of the person at every level of their life.*

How We Source This Product

Dragon Herbs gynostemma is grown near the top of Great Immortal Peak, a remote pristine mountain in Southern China, without the use of any chemicals or modern equipment. It is grown totally on mountain spring water and natural precipitation. Most of the Gynostemma sold in the United States is grown at low altitude as an adjunctive farm product, usually around corn fields. The water in these farms is not nearly as pure as the fresh mountain spring water that feeds the Great Immortal Peak Gynostemma plot. Also, the common low lying fields are fumigated and unnaturally fertilized. Dragon Herbs’ Gynostemma is grown in a completely clean, naturally fertile environment. Most manufacturers leave the stems in the Gynostemma before extracting, resulting in a less potent extract. Dragon Herbs uses hand selected leaves only.

Does your teabag contain epichlorohydrin as some other companies do?

No. Our SDLT teabags are produced using an environmentally friendly unbleached paper.

Can I drink this tea before bed as well as in the morning?

You can drink it in the morning, afternoon or night without sleep disturbance. There is no caffeine in Spring Dragon Longevity Tea.

Is this a powder or in bags?? It seems to say both. So is this saying we get 3 cups per bag?

The tea is not a powder in a bag. It is Gynostemma herbal tea leaves, cut to "tea cut" size, which is infused with the concentrated extracts of five other major tonic herbs. You can get 2 cups per bag, but if you make each cup very strong, you may find that 2 cups are strong and the third is a bit weaker.

Would love to know if this tea has been grown without pesticides even though it's not labeled as organic?

There are no pesticides used to grown the Gynostemma or any of the herbs included in this formulation.

    Nicole, Crave It

Renata Marie, Wonderful Tea for the entire family to enjoy
  8. "Hey Guys, this is Wes "Shrimp Po'Boy" Savage here, to anyone who wants to read what a Castizo Bumpkin from the North Louisiana Woods has to say about this product, please consider trying this tea.

It's a fantastic product, if you're an asthmatic like I am, it's EXTREMELY soothing to the lungs, but due to Gynostemma and Luo Han Guo's properties, it's no surprise.

You can use 2 teabags of this cold brewed into 2 quarts of water to make an amazing strawberry or any other kind of lemonade, even a cherry limeade if you want, it's absolutely incredible!

It's invigorating, but not aggravating, it's able to work with your system and take what's going good in your immune system, your liver and other organs, and emboldens them.

It has this odd (to me anyways) combo of stimulation and calming effect on the mind, it's great for settling your nerves if you wanted to try it and say you're suffering some severe side effects from an antidepressant under the guidance of a neuropsychologist and a trained herbalist that knows how to treat the Shen REALLY REALLY well.

Another thing to point out about this tea is that it's one of my secrets for handling the flu seasons as well as how to keep myself going under these really humid and hot Louisiana summers, but that's because of the yin effects in the Jiaogulan and the Goji that come into effect during these times, so it's a great alternative to iced coffee in that sense, it does NOT have the drying and potentially mineral depleting effects of coffee in general, let alone coffee that's not brewed in a way to remove the phosphoric acid from it.

I think Andrew said it best in one of these previous reviews, it's a swiss army knife of health promoting items.

If you wanna know how I make this into my Guayusa Limeade, I'll gladly teach you guys.

Cold brew 3/8 cup Green Guayusa, 1 small piece of licorice root and 3 teabags of Spring Dragon Longevity Tea into 1/2 gallon cold filtered water overnight.

Strain the brew, add into it the juice of 12 limes (or key limes if you want) and 1 lemon.

Stir that together and add the other 1/2 gallon of filtered water.

Sweeten with Stevia and Sweetfruit Drops Zen for the finishing touch.

Yes, this limeade is caffeinated, but the L-Theanine and tonic herbs' adaptogenic properties counter-regulate against its side effects, then the abundance of minerals in quayusa and yerba mate and the absence of phosphoric acid also counter-balance against this too.

I hope you do give this recipe a trial, it's enjoyable to me and I wanted to share it with everyone else as part of this review."

Wesley, I love brewing this tea into a Guayusa Limeade
  9. "My wife and I love this tea. It tastes amazing and a just the right amount of sweetness, but doesn't contain any sugar or fake sugar. It also makes me feel less stressed out. Highly recommend "
