alcohol extraction. For every ounce of Dragon Drops, 24
ounces of solvents are used: a 24:1 solvents to finished
product ratio to avoid reaching saturation point. More
solvents mean more active constituents coming out and
a more complete extraction. The extracted materials
from all three rounds (water and alcohol) are then
combined and condensed by removing the majority
of the solvents, reducing the volume by 95%. Essential
oils evaporated during the extraction are captured in
oil traps and added back to the final extracts. What you
receive in our tinctures are therefore the essence of the
essence. It has the best of both worlds: all the water-
soluble compounds AND alcohol-soluble compounds.
Most tinctures on the market are not true extracts. They
are actually just solvents infused with herbs. They do
not go through an actual extraction and condensation
process because the alcohol extraction and
condensation equipment is very expensive; the facility
has to be rigorously permitted by the government and
the production process needs to be carefully controlled
due to the combustibility of alcohol.
As a result, most companies do not use heat in their
tincture production so they do not have to invest in high
tech equipment upfront and they can keep the ongoing
operating costs low. In their low tech procedure, dry
herbs are soaked in 20-90% alcohol then the infused
solvent is sold. That is it. No heat, no condensing.
What goes into the infusion tank is what comes out.
A 1:1 solvents to finished product ratio. This means
the saturation point is easily reached and much of the
active constituents is left behind. The entire process can
be summarized as “Soak-Stir-Sell”. The end products of
“Soak-Stir-Sell” in tincture form are, in reality, solvents
infused with herbs. Infusions are NOT extracts. They are
thin, often light colored and very weak.
Dragon Herbs produces its tinctures in a
pharmaceutical factory. The factory is licensed to
produce human injections, which has the strictest
standards in pharmaceutical production. This means
our tincture production, though not pharmaceutical,
can benefit from the state-of-the-art facility and
equipment and the best-in-class manufacturing
practices that are already in place to meet the
highest GMP standards.
Above: Condensation tanks remove as much as 95% of
solvents (water and alcohol) used during the extraction
stage. This is a critical stage to ensure the finished product
is as strong as possible.
Middle: Water used to produce Dragon Drops is purified
to high quality drinking water standards. Our computer
controlled water filtration system involves 4 stages of
filtration and multiple filtration mediums. Our filtration
system is capable of outputting injection grade water.
