Product Description
Gynostemma pentaphyllum leaf is a quintessential adaptogenic herb. Gynostemma leaf is known in Asia as the “Miracle Leaf” and shares a remarkably similar chemical profile with Ginseng. The delicate bright green leaf of this vine-like tropical plant is regarded as one of Asia’s premier healthy-aging herbs. Gynostemma is an adaptogen and antioxidant.
It supports the adaptive response of a human being, and helps us handle stress more efficiently. It supports the healthy activity of the immune system. It is traditionally used to help support and maintain normal healthy respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive and liver functions. The primary active constituents of Gynostemma leaf are known as gypenosides. Cumulative studies on Gynostemma since 1976 show that Gynostemma leaf extract contains over 150 naturally occurring gypenosides. These all contribute to Gynostemma’s profound adaptogenic capacity.
This highly concentrated extract is made from the purest, highest grade Gynostemma leaf, grown near the top of Great Immortal Peak, a remote pristine mountain in Southern China, without the use of any chemicals or modern equipment. It is grown totally on mountain spring water and natural precipitation. Most of the Gynostemma sold in the United States is grown at low altitude as an adjunctive farm product, usually around corn fields. The water in these farms is not nearly as pure as the fresh mountain spring water that feeds the Great Immortal Peak Gynostemma plot. Also, the common low lying fields are fumigated and unnaturally fertilized. Dragon Herbs’ Gynostemma is grown in a completely clean, naturally fertile environment.* Most manufacturers leave the stems in the Gynostemma before extracting, resulting in a less potent extract. Dragon Herbs uses hand selected leaves only. Gynostemma leaf extract is one of the great dietary supplements in the world.
In 1972, a group of Japanese researchers reported that Gynostemma tea was being consumed as a daily “longevity tea” by large numbers of southern Chinese people. It was revered in the regions where it grows as “magical grass” because of its many reputed health benefits.
This led the Japanese researchers to study the constituents and pharmacology of Gynostemma. The researchers discovered that the chemical constituents responsible for the adaptogenic characteristics of Gynostemma are 180+ di erent saponins called Gypenosides. Gypenosides are structurally and functionally very similar to Ginsenosides, which are the active constituents of Ginseng root (Panax ginseng). In fact, many of them ARE ginsenosides, just in another plant that’s not Ginseng. This is the broadest known range of saponins in any one plant in nature. Ginseng, for example, has about 100 saponins (Ginsenosides). The Gypenosides are so similar to the ginsenosides of Ginseng that in China, Gynostemma is called “Ginseng at Tea Price”.
Japanese studies have indicated that Gynostemma has a dual-direction regulating influence on the central nervous system. It is calming when one is overexcited and invigorating when one is fatigued.
Widely known for its “spirit-lifting” effect.
Support the body’s systemic dual-direction immune response
Gynostemma accelerates the body’s metabolism and helps maintain healthy blood sugar and blood fat levels within a normal range.
Gynostemma has developed an enormous reputation in Asia as a major aid in weight management programs. Gynostemma has been shown to have a double-direction activity with regard to weight. Gynostemma can be useful in reducing excessive body fat, when combined with a reasonable exercise program and a healthy diet that modulates caloric intake. Gynostemma may also help athletes, body builders or excessively slim people to gain weight.
Gynostemma tea is very soothing to the stomach. It protects the stomach lining. A safe alternative to green tea for people with sensitive stomachs.
Helps support respiratory, hepatic, and cardiovascular functions.
Although Gynostemma is not a laxative, it may help maintain healthy bowel movements.

Extraction
State-of-the-Art Industrial Extraction
Dragon Herbs tinctures, commonly referred to as “Dragon Drops,” are alcohol-and-water extracts of the highest quality tonic herbs in the world. These highly concentrated fluid extracts are available in 2 ounce glass dropper bottles with glass droppers. Dragon Drops formulations are developed by Master Herbalist Ron Teeguarden. We buy our herbs directly from herb farmers and herb hunters.
There are two primary natural solvents in this world: water and alcohol. The plants’ active compounds are usually either water-soluble or alcohol-soluble. The best full spectrum extraction method is to extract plants using both water and alcohol. That is how Dragon Drops are made.
Our Dragon Drops formulations go through 2 rounds of low temperature water extraction and 1 round of alcohol extraction. The extracted materials from all 3 rounds (water and alcohol) are then combined and condensed by removing majority of the solvents, reducing the volume by 90-95%. Essential oils evaporated during the extraction are trapped in oil traps and added back to the extracts. What you receive in our tinctures are therefore the essence of the essence. It has the best of both worlds: water-soluble compounds AND alcohol-soluble compounds.
The alcohol extraction equipment is expensive and its process has to be carefully controlled due to the combustibility of alcohol. Most companies do not use heat in their tincture production so they do not have to invest in high tech equipment upfront and they can keep the ongoing operating costs low. This is why most tinctures on the market are, in reality, infusions. In their low tech procedure, dry herbs are soaked in 20-90% alcohol then the infused solvent is sold. That is it. No heat, no cooking, no condensing. Only soaking. These end products sold in tincture form are practically solvents infused with herbs.
Infusions are NOT extracts. You can literally see and taste the difference.
If you want true “tinctures,” step up to Dragon Drops, the most potent true tinctures in the world.
Gynostemma is a remarkable herb known in Asia as “magical grass.” It is a broad spectrum ADAPTOGENIC (stress modulating) herb. Prolonged consumption of Gynostemma supports the adaptive capacity of people at every level of their life.
