Product Description

Reishi mushroom is arguably the greatest tonic herb on earth. It is certainly one of the most revered herbal substances in Asia, ranking as one of the elite herbal supplements for the attainment of glowing health, longevity and spiritual attainment. It has maintained that reputation for at least 2,500 years, and its reputation and value are only increasing. Reishi, also known by its Chinese name of Ling Zhi or its botanical name of Ganoderma lucidum, is extremely safe and non-toxic. Duanwood™ Reishi is an organically cultivated variety of Reishi that has potent immune tonifying potency.

This product is made from 100% Duanwood™ Reishi, and is rich in all of the components that make Reishi great. The Reishi is grown on logs cut wild from the forest. Duanwood Reishi is far more powerful than common hothouse (plastic bag) Reishi and Reishi mycelium, the most common sources of “reishi” raw materials on the American market. “Duan” means “original and authentic.” So “Duanwood” means “authentic wood” — the same exact wood Reishi grows on in nature. Duanwood Reishi™ is Dragon Herbs’ proprietary cultivated Reishi, grown in a remote high mountain forest on Wuyi Mountain, naturally irrigated with mountain spring water, in air as fresh as any on earth, in pure virgin mountain-forest soil. The logs are sustainably wild harvested. All this yields the most potent Reishi.

Ron Teeguarden has been selling Reishi since 1976, which makes this his 40th anniversary in the trade. Ron has visited several dozen Reishi plantations in Asia. When Ron states that this is the best cultivated Reishi in the world, it is based on deep experience. Duanwood™ Reishi is made with 50% Reishis that are on the verge of going to spore and are at peak energy. The other 50% are mushrooms that have gone to spore the very day they are collected. Reishi spores have special qualities that enhance the overall benefits of this extract. Reishi spores are a profound Jing and immune tonic.* The terms Duanwood™ and Duanwood Reishi™ are trademarks of Dragon Herbs.

Going Deep

Herb of the Immortals

Reishi mushroom is arguably the greatest tonic herb on earth. It is certainly the most revered herbal substance in Asia, ranking with Ginseng as the elite substance for the attainment of radiant health, longevity and spiritual attainment. It has maintained that position for at least 2000 years, and its reputation and value are only increasing. Since Reishi has been known to have many functions, it has been the subject of a great deal of research in recent years. It is extremely safe and non-toxic.

Taoists have continuously claimed that Reishi promotes calmness, centeredness, balance, inner awareness and inner strength. They have used it to improve meditative practices and to protect the body, mind and spirit so that the adept could attain both a long and healthy life and spiritual “immortality” (an enlightened state).

The Red Reishi mushroom (Ganoderma lucidum) is a superb anti-stress herb. Throughout history it has been used to bring balance into the lives of people who needed help in this department, and that means most everyone. Deep in antiquity, it was routinely used by mountain hermits, monks, Taoist adepts and spiritual seekers throughout Asia because it was believed to help calm the mind, ease tension, strengthen the nerves, strengthen memory, sharpen concentration, improve focus, build will power and, as a result, help build wisdom.  That is why it was called the "Mushroom of Spiritual Potency" by these seekers. The people of Asia have never lost their faith in Reishi. They believe more than ever in Reishi's power to improve the quality of life by improving the inner life of a human being.

Fruiting BodyReishi has traditionally been used as an anti-aging herb. It is highly protective and improves how most people handle stress.

All the scientific validation only explains the physical nature of Reishi, but it is the profound ability of Reishi to improve one's life on every plane that makes it so miraculous. Reishi is indeed calming and centering. Everyone who takes Reishi notices the peacefulness that seems to accompany its use. And Reishi seems to be cumulative, gradually strengthening the nerves and actually changing how we perceive life.

This product is made from 100% Duanwood™ Reishi,* which studies have shown is the most powerful Reishi in the world from a pharmacological perspective. It is extremely rich in all of the components that make Reishi great. Duanwood Reishi is far more powerful than common hothouse Reishi and Reishi mycelium, the most common sources of raw materials on the American market. “Duanwood” means “original wood.” The Reishi is grown on logs cut wild from the forest. The logs are from the same trees that Reishi grows on in the wild, producing the most potent Reishi.

Superior quality Duanwood Reishi™ is among the rarest of jewels in nature. Duanwood Reishi is a substance that builds health on all levels. Life itself is based on the ability to adapt to the stresses and the challenges that come our way every day. Duanwood Reishi seems to provide an incredible resource of the full range of phytochemicals and energies we need to meet these challenges. There are over 800 natural bioactive constituents in Duanwood Reishi™, each one subtlety tweaking the healthy functions of those who consume it.

Duanwood Reishi is indeed "the great protector," protecting us on every level – physically, immunologically, mentally, and spiritually. It helps us adapt to the world and provides additional power for us to achieve a superior level of life. When we are so protected and so provided for, we can achieve things that otherwise would be impossible. That is why Duanwood Reishi™ has been called the "herb of good fortune."

Reishi is now used as a general tonic to help develop energy, and to support digestion.

Reishi supports normal healthy immune functions. It is an immune "modulator" — that is, it helps to modulate and fine tune the immune system. Our immune system is a virtually miraculous network of activities designed over millions of years.

Chemical constituents known as Reishi polysaccharides play an important role in supporting the body's overall immune functions. Reishi does not "stimulate" the immune system. It regulates it. And that is what makes Reishi so precious. Ganoderic acids promote proper oxygen utilization and support liver functions. Ganoderic acids are also antioxidant free-radical scavengers.

Reishi has been found to modulate the activities of nuclear factor kappa B (NFkB), a transcription factor found in all of our cells. Reishi is a dietary supplement that supports normal functions of the immune system.

Reishi is widely used in Asia to support normal cardiovascular functions.*

ReishiIt’s the “Mushroom Fruiting Body” that Matters Most

It is of critical importance to the consumer to know that it is the fruiting body, the above-the-ground “mushroom,” that is the official herbal part of this botanical. The mycelium, that part of the fungus that grows within the rotting wood, is not used in Asia as a tonic material. The fruiting body is the “mushroom,” the sexual organ of the fungus that emerges from the mycelium during the growing season. In Asia, only the fruiting body is accepted as a tonic herb. The fruiting body is called the “mushroom of immortality,” not the mycelium. The mycelium is however widely sold in America to less sophisticated users. The mycelium is usually simply ground into a powder and sold as “Reishi.” Real Reishi is always extracted. It cannot be digested by humans if it is not extracted and made bioavailable. Dragon Herbs only uses the fruiting body to make its Reishi products – never mycelial mass – and it is always extracted and thus concentrated.

Sourcing

Ron Teeguarden has been a purveryor of Duanwood Reishi mushroom extract since 1988.

Our supply currently is grown in a remote mountain forest where there is no industry or pollution. The plantation is an eight hour drive from the nearest city. The mountain is called Wu Yi Shan. The duanwood logs are harvested on site from the forest. Irrigation is derived from a mountain spring that runs adjacent to the growing area. No chemicals are EVER used to produce this certified organic Reishi.

Extraction

State-of-the-Art Industrial Extraction

Dragon Herbs tinctures, commonly referred to as “Dragon Drops,” are alcohol-and-water extracts of the highest quality tonic herbs in the world. These highly concentrated fluid extracts are available in 2 ounce glass dropper bottles with glass droppers. Dragon Drops formulations are developed by Master Herbalist Ron Teeguarden. We buy our herbs directly from herb farmers and herb hunters.

There are two primary natural solvents in this world: water and alcohol. The plants’ active compounds are usually either water-soluble or alcohol-soluble. The best full spectrum extraction method is to extract plants using both water and alcohol. That is how Dragon Drops are made.

Our Dragon Drops formulations go through 2 rounds of low temperature water extraction and 1 round of alcohol extraction. The extracted materials from all 3 rounds (water and alcohol) are then combined and condensed by removing majority of the solvents, reducing the volume by 90-95%. Essential oils evaporated during the extraction are trapped in oil traps and added back to the extracts. What you receive in our tinctures are therefore the essence of the essence. It has the best of both worlds: water-soluble compounds AND alcohol-soluble compounds.

Ron Extraction

The alcohol extraction equipment is expensive and its process has to be carefully controlled due to the combustibility of alcohol. Most companies do not use heat in their tincture production so they do not have to invest in high tech equipment upfront and they can keep the ongoing operating costs low. This is why most tinctures on the market are, in reality, infusions. In their low tech procedure, dry herbs are soaked in 20-90% alcohol then the infused solvent is sold. That is it. No heat, no cooking, no condensing. Only soaking. These end products sold in tincture form are practically solvents infused with herbs.

Infusions are NOT extracts. You can literally see and taste the difference.

If you want true “tinctures,” step up to Dragon Drops, the most potent true tinctures in the world.

Ron inspecting Duanwood ReishisIs Duanwood Reishi grown in a hothouse?

No, it is grown on a mountain plantation in the open air, though a tent is erected to cover the Reishi patch in the later stages of growth to protect the Reishi.

What part of the Reishi is used?

Only the mature fruiting bodies (the mushroom caps and stalks), but not the mycelium, which in Asia is considered to be inferior in its benefits.

Duanwood Reishi is an evolved form of wood mushroom. It is often used to regulate allergic responses. However, you should use it with caution at first, or consult with your physician.
